Online Classes
During Covid Lockdown it was not possible to hold classes in person however I began to hold classes online and these have worked well for a number of people. Now I have returned to venues I will still run these sessions as required and depending on my availability. If you would like me to run one please email me on [email protected] a week before.
During lockdown some classes were with a model (Portrait and Clothed Life Drawing) and others were Working Without a Model (see below). Now we are returning to venues I am continuing Working Without a Model for the forseeable future, if people book ahead of time. All sessions with a model are now in venues only.
"Working Without a Model" (£9.50 for 2 hours) is a chatty session where people decide what they will draw from what they have around them at home, and send me a picture of it - maybe a photo, something from a book, still life or basically whatever they want. Most people draw, occasionally they paint, any other suggestions welcome! I view the result over zoom or they send photos to me through their phone or email and I am able to use various methods to explain how to progress. This runs at 11am Tuesdays and some Thursdays.
If you would like to attend or to find out more, please email me on [email protected].
CLASSES ON ZOOM - How it works
Obviously things seem very different. For a start, I can't lend you materials. All you really need is paper, something to lean on (a drawing board or even chopping board or tray) and something to draw with. A pencil is fine, ideally one that makes a relatively dark mark (2B or something similar) rather than HB. If you have other materials that is fine too.
You will need to be able to run zoom by clicking on the link I send you. It can work on a tablet, computer, chrome book or phone but if you are drawing a model it helps to have something bigger than a phone if possible. If you are unfamiliar with zoom do let me know, we can always try it out beforehand. I will try and have it running before the session starts if I have a model. It is not very complex but unfortunately the controls vary depending on which device you are using it on. It is helpful if you know how to pin a person so you get them as the main view.
We have a break part way through and I encourage people to get up for a drink or just a stretch as we can get stiff without the normal break for a coffee. The model, if there is one, will probably take additional short breaks if it is a portrait session.
At intervals I can look at your drawing by you holding it up to the screen or sending it to me through email or Whatsapp. This has worked very successfully. I use a tablet or paper to aid in my explanations as to how things can be checked or amended.
Payment is through bank transfer. If there are insufficient people to cover the model I may need to cancel the session so it helps to receive money in advance.
